Do you suffer from jaw pain or headaches? Do you hear a popping or clicking sound when you chew? Do you have difficulty opening your jaw? It may be that you have a problem in your jaw joint (TMJ). TMJ stands for Temporomandibular Joint. The joint is located just in front of your ear hole and you can feel it move when you open and close your mouth. Joint Vibration Analysis (JVA) is a diagnostic tool used to help identify and correct a problem with your jaw joint. JVA is a three minute long, non-invasive test that measures the clicks and pops from your jaw joint during opening and closing. In abnormal joints, the smooth and well lubricated surfaces begin to breakdown, compress or displace. When you open and close your jaw, vibration patterns occur. JVA measures these patterns and allows the dentist to accurately evaluate them. Treatment can be in the form of muscle treatment, wearing a soft splint or even moving a tooth out of the way.

There are many causes of jaw joint pains including clenching and grinding, misaligned bite, arthritis, dislocation and cartilage wear.

At The Dentist Pukekohe, we are able to offer you a range of treatments to reduce your discomfort... so contact us and let’s find a solution together.
