Cosmetic Dentistry
Making over your smile can have more impact on your appearance than almost anything else you can do. You don’t often think that your mouth ages but it does. Teeth darken with age and change shape due to wear and tear.
Your “Make over” could be as simple as whitening the teeth, or changing some old discoloured fillings. Sometimes subtly changing the shape of one or two teeth can make all the difference.
If you need to go further then your options include composite veneers, porcelain veneers, porcelain crowns and composite bridges.
Veneers
Veneers just cover the front side of the tooth. Because the materials we use today are so strong, modern veneers can be very thin which means we only need to minimally adjust the tooth. Sometimes we don’t even need to touch the tooth at all. There are two types of veneers:
Composite Veneers
Composite veneers are completed in one appointment. The advantage of composite is that we can very accurately colour match and characterise the teeth. They are also very easy to adjust and repair if necessary and they don’t wear down the opposing teeth.
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers look beautiful and are completed in two appointments. Veneers are ultra-thin, custom-made porcelain laminates that are bonded directly to the teeth.
Crowns
Crowns cover the whole tooth like a hat. We use crowns when there is structural damage to the tooth, which often is the case in root filled teeth.
