Adolescent Dental Care

Establishing good oral health habits is very important in the teen years. It is when your oral health is significantly impacted by the choices you make and therefore healthy choices help lead to positive oral health and general wellbeing. Diet is a big factor in determining the oral health of teenagers as they are more likely to consume highly sugary and/or acidic foods and drinks than other age groups. Therefore, increasing the risk of cavities and gum disease. Good oral health practices should be encouraged during the teenage years and those include:

  • Brushing twice and floss once per day
  • Visiting your dentist regularly.
  • Reducing sugar Intake. Tooth decay is caused by bacteria that feed on sugar.
  • Limiting snacking
  • Eating a healthy, balanced diet
  • Wearing a mouth guard to protect your teeth when you are playing sports

From year 9 to when you are 18 years old, you qualify for free dental care at The Dentist Pukekohe. The teen dental service is available whether you are at school, doing a course, working or unemployed.
